CNN anchor Don Lemon is gay, and has even written a book, Transparent, about it. He's being called inspirational and courageous for talking about this, over forty years removed from the NYC Stonewall riots.
The people involved in that were courageous.
And we should care about Lemon's revelation, why? I mean, Lemon is gay. He's not special or even unusual. I can name offhand a dozen or more STLMedia folk who are gay and closeted. I won't, of course, without their permission, but my point is that homosexuality in media is not that unusual.
Coming out in 2011 is not much of a step forward.
