... that involves the purchase by auction of the contents of abandoned storage lockers. One of the recent shows showed a buyer discovering a Hammond B3 organ with an accompanying set of Leslie Rotator speakers going for almost nothing and, of course, being resold for some astronomical price.
Back in the early-1980's, I was working at WRNL in Richmond/VA, just purchased by a new owner and the station was being demolished to make way for a new facility. The station property included a Hammond B3 and Leslie speakers and the manager had agreed to let me take those pieces for free for the task of moving them.
Was I excited? You bet? Did they work? I had them tested by the dear little old lady, Liz Underwood, then the station music librarian and formerly the station's piano and organ player "back in the day", and yes, they were still in great shape. I was a day away from moving them to personal storage when Marshall Crenshaw showed up for an interview at our associated FM, offered the GM $10k for them and I went wandering, B3-less, into the wilderness.
That's why all my shooting targets have Marshall Crenshaw's image printed on the paper. Bastard.
