With Nielson pulling out of the radio ratings biz, it reminded me of an old document a listener gave to me many years ago. Ever hear of the Broadcast Measurement Bureau? It was located in New York, was non-profit, and was apparently created by the NAB and radio stations "to get some idea of who was listening". (The last page of the attached pdf is from googling "Broadcast Measurement Bureau" and is from a 1944 article about the creation of the Broadcast Measurement Bureau in The Billboard.)
