Goodbye Classic 99...

Today marks the end of 62 years of service of KFUO-FM; the vast majority of that time spent as a Classical Music station - the only one in St. Louis for over the past decade since KWMU moved to NPR Talk programming in the 90s.

Wednesday, July 7, at 7 AM, Gateway Creative Broadcasting will switch the format to Contemporary Christian music "99.1 Joy FM." The KFUO call letters are being retained by the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod along with Lutheran Talk/Teaching 850 KFUO AM, so 99.1 will have new call letters for the first time ever this week.

No word on what will happen with Joy FM's two current rural rimshot stations - 94.1 KPVR Bowling Green, MO (25,000 Watts serving the "Westplex" Area), and 97.7 KHZR Potosi, MO (50,000 Watts serving St. Louis and points South). The two are apparently still seeking a buyer with a reported $5 Million asking price tag for the two signals.
