This was first tipped and confirmed on the STLMedia Message Board a few days ago. It will be anchored by Patrick Clark, whose Wikipedia page says he's "been featured on the Home & Garden Network (HGTV), G4, ABC Family Channel, All News Channel and served as a correspondent for Cartoon Network."
WTF? A correspondent for the Cartoon Network? What would one of those do, exactly?
From the press release:
ST. LOUIS, MO, June16, 2010 – KPLR-TV announced today the addition of a new local, late afternoon news program beginning Monday, September 20, 2010.
The launch of News 11 at 4 a marks a new venture into the daytime news market for the station. Anchored by KPLR’s Emmy Award Winning Patrick Clark, the one-hour program will highlight local news and weather, national headlines, live breaking news, and daily features.
Blah, blah, blah and etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.
I'm sorry, but this is just overkill. Or maybe underkill. I can't watch the news on KPLR. It's like a college station with better makeup and a costumer. The people are nice, agreeable, pleasant. The lighting and the audio is acceptable. But the presentation is, well, amateurish. Maybe the KPLR gig is like the AA team for KTVI?
Yes, I know that 4PM newscasts have been popular and even successful elsewhere. I hope it does well for the 2/11 combo, I really do. But I have issues, I guess, with watching the news delivered by a former correspondent for the Cartoon Channel and a writer/producer/artist of childrens' music. Patrick is signed, by the way, to Tinker Records. Make your own jokes.
I think this will not work out well.
