Recovering from the storm ...

Turns out that my problem wasn't an electrical surge from lightning.  All of the protectors in place worked as expected.  What happened here happened because of grounding insufficiencies.  Don't completely understand it.

Phones and DSL fixed, thank God for inline insurance.  No charge and all is back in order.  Everything else seemed to reset except for the Sony TV and the 30-year old Sears garage door opener.  Both had crippling damage, and the repairs would have exceeded the cost of replacement.  Maybe, just maybe, insurance will cover some of this.

Ordered an LG 42" LCD TV from Wal-Mart, great price, great specs, great reviews, free home delivery sometime next week.  I'll need to buy a floor stand for this thing, I guess, shopping over the weekend.  Couple HDMI cables, too.  And a new (digital) Roku box (but don't tell Mrs. A).  The older one will move to the bedroom.

And a new garage door opener from OverheadDoor.  I looked for a cheaper price elsewhere, but I quickly found that the cheaper openers did not include rails or chains, car remotes or installation. Called OHD at 8AM, they were here at 12N and gone by 2PM, taking away all the old stuff and trash.   Good install techs and I had a lot of fun talking with them. Turned out to be not-so-young guys who remembered Reverend Mike at KIX104 in the early 1990's.

Quick story:  For many years of my younger life, when I lived in South Jersey, near Philadelphia, I rode or drove almost daily past the Overhead Door Company of Maple Shade, at the Northwest corner of Haddonfield Road and Main Street/Route 537 in what is now Cherry Hill.  No idea if it's still there, but I'd guess not considering how real estate has exploded in value.

But that exposure to their signage over the years impressed the name on me and when I came across it online, that's why I chose them to do the work.

So there's an ad impression across a half-century that worked and made the company a few bucks. Yup, us old buckaroos remember the names and have the loot to do the deal.
