The iconic American painter created these images based on a State of the Union speech by President Franklin Roosevelt in 1941, just months before our entry into WWII. Rockwell offered them to the government to use in bond drives; the government initally declined but later accepted his offer.
They were first published in the Saturday Evening Post, which is where I first saw them, in library copies of that magazine. They astound me to this day.
