The new iPod Nano includes an FM receiver. Hot damn. If Steve Jobs wanted to save FM radio, he's about a decade too late.
Radio operators have been real busy these last ten years, furiously shooting themselves in their collective feet, destroying that music medium with play-for-pay, an overabundance of commercials and a dearth of air talent. The owners have done everything they could to drive away listeners.
And the record companies, such as they exist nowadays, haven't been much help, producing mediocrity after mediocrity.
If the broadcast and music industries aren't interested in growing new listeners, why should Apple waste time developing a chip for this function?
The really big news on this new Nano release is the video record function. It's not HD, and that may be the only thing that will keep the Flip cameras alive in the marketplace.
