Was a good idea, the operative word being "was" ...

Howard Anderson’s “Highway Stations”, on the drive between SoCal and Las Vegas, laid off all their DJs.

“The Highway” was intended to provide continuous radio service – plus traffic, weather, news and plenty of Vegas-related advertising – for funseekers headed to the desert, using a collection of simulcast FMs along the route. But travel to Las Vegas is down, and so is advertising on adult contemporary KHWY, Essex CA (98.9), KRXV, Yermo (98.1) and KHYZ, Mountain Pass (99.7).

GM Tim Anderson tells the Desert Dispatch the service elements will remain. But he’s had to lay off at least 10 employees, including four fulltime jocks. Highway Radio out-sources its news to Reliant Broadcasting, and that will continue, along with traffic updates, etc.

Howard Anderson has a couple of other stations in that area, and they’re unaffected by the layoffs that were communicated to staffers last Sunday. Anderson runs the “Drive” Highway Rock service simulcast of KHDR, Lenwood (96.9) and KHRQ, Baker (94.9). And “Highway Country” KIXW, Lenwood (107.3) and KIXF, Baker at 101.5.

Nothing like this from STL to The Lake or Branson, I guess?

Thanks to Tom Taylor.
