VP Fair 1986, South Stage, Saturday afternoon ...

I was MC'ing the country music show, with Mrs. A and all four of the kids in attendance, when a storm, with winds later judged at about 100mph, whipped through and trashed everything. I don't remember who the band was but I do remember that we all became close personal friends as we huddled under the tenting blown off the stage and onto us.

Scary, but nowhere near as bad as this:

Country Fest Ends In Tragedy: "My heart goes out to the family of Donna Moore, who was killed, and all of the other fans who were hurt on Saturday," Billy Currington says of the main-stage collapse at the Big Valley Jamboree in Camrose, Alberta, Canada over the weekend (8/1).

Moore, a 35-year-old local chamber of commerce staffer, was the lone fatality among more than 75 injured, including Currington. "The boys and I are very grateful to be home and for life itself," the singer tweeted upon his return to Nashville. "We thank you for your prayers and concern, and will see you on the road again soon."

Currington was wrapping his set when severe weather brought down the stage. He was taken to the hospital for a minor concussion, and is expected to fully recover at his Nashville home. His bassist Alex Stevens was pinned under the wreckage, and underwent immediate surgery to repair a severed artery and nerves. Stevens is now being treated in Nashville. Kevin Costner & Modern West were under the stage prior to their set when the collapse occurred, and two were banged up. According to the Associated Press, Sunday's festivities, which were to include performances by Tim McGraw and Tracy Lawrence, were cancelled.
