... what are the educational facilities (trade schools and colleges and universities) who relied on this as a profit center doing about it? I spent a lot of part-time hours over the years teaching students the skills I learned on the road to my career. Got paid some pretty good bucks for it, too.
A couple of those years I taught in Mike Lemmon's broadcasting courses at Lewis & Clark Community College in Godfrey IL. Mike ran the absolute best college radio station and educational unit I have ever encountered and with my experience there and Mike's encouragement I became a better teacher.
I only left because I had a heart attack and subsequent surgery and the 45-minute drive became too much. I left teaching in 1996 or so, and now, with all that has transpired since then in the industry, I have to wonder what an education in Broadcasting really means.
Not much, I bet. You tell me.

Be afraid, be very afraid ...
Jonnie King has his annual Halloween Horror Movie list of viewable suggestions up and running. Lotsa good stuff there.
Jonnie also included this photo of the old original NYC Peppermint Lounge, taken when he toured NYC for the NY World's Fair in 1965. I was there in the same year, touring with my HS Biology Club. I think Jonnie and I may have missed eachother...
Hundreds out at Clear Channel across the country ...
A new round of layoffs (how many can be left?). Here's the local news.

Didn't TV stations try this in the 1970's?
From the STLMedia MB:
ST. LOUIS – In an effort to expand an already stressed staff, KMOV plans to offer more local coverage from St. Charles County, KMOV announced on Tuesday that it will open another newsroom on November 2 in St. Charles.
The newsroom will be located at 300 N. Main Street, and will be used as a hideout for some KMOV employees while others will use it as news dictates.
The newsroom is set up so that News 4 can go live from Main Street in St. Charles with the flip of a switch.
So who will be sent to the doghouse?

If you own a firearm ...
... it might be useful for you to know that there's an STL local (St. Clair County) manufacturer of concealed carry and other holsters and carrying cases, who provide high quality products at good prices, all made in the USA.
That would be AceCase, whose products I've used for years for all sorts of firearms, handguns and longarms. I highly recommend them. Their leatherwork is excellent, their holsters and carriers made of nylon are sturdy and the attached hardware is top notch.
Currently, they have a great sale on, two IWB holsters for about $20.

RIP, CBS Reporter Robert Pierpoint ...
Read it all here.
CBS News correspondent Robert C. Pierpoint — who covered six presidents, the Korean War, the Kennedy assassination and the Iranian hostage crisis in a career that spanned more than four decades — died Saturday in California, his daughter said. He was 86.
Pierpoint, who retired in 1990, died of complications from surgery at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, Marta Pierpoint told The Associated Press. He had broken his hip Oct. 12 at the Santa Barbara Retirement Community where he lived with his wife Patricia.

Dining tip ...
Most of Mrs. A's and my dining adventures over the past few years have been disappointments. Last Saturday we broke our streak with a pair of meals that both she and I enjoyed. We'd been enticed to visit this place, Meglio's, in Bridgeton, on the Rock Road at I-270, when we saw a Food Channel "Restaurant:Impossible" show, wherein Robert Irwin consulted and helped rebuild the appearance and menu of the old place.
It's a tough location for a restaurant, even a Steak & Shake failed there, but Meglio's seem to be doing okay. Give 'em a try, if you have the chance. I'm told that their Luigi's Pizza is great, by the way.
Don't know if they're up for cash-in-front advertising, but a gently managed trade deal might help them out.
