Otherwise useless STLPD media and society columnist Deb Peterson has a radio scoop:
Urban radio veteran, Andre Carson, has been named program director of Clear Channel Radio stations KMJM (FM 104.9) and KATZ (AM 1600).
Carson also has a background as a successful radio programmer and manager, according to Clear Channel.
Jeff McHugh, operations manager for Clear Channel Radio St. Louis, said Carson was the first choice for the position after the radio station staff conducted a round of interviews.
McHugh said he has known Carson since 1984, when they worked at WWDM in Columbia, S.C., and WHYZ in Greenville, S.C., and has high regard for his abilities.
Carson was named "Program Director of the Year" three times by Billboard magazine, and one of the "Best Program Directors in Radio" by Radio Ink magazine. He led his previous stations to a Crystal Award from the National Association of Broadcasters and to twice being named a Billboard "Radio Station of the Year."
Carson was previously operations manager of KPRS and KPRT in Kansas City, and operations manager and program director of WEPG and WBAV in Charlotte, N.C.
QUESTION: What exactly is it that a Clear Channel PD does, beyond scheduling weekend air talent, who will only be pre-recording their shows?
