On having a "GoBag" ...

What with the East Coast 5.8 earthquake and Hurricane Irene within a couple weeks, a lot of coastal residents have thought twice about having survival gear on hand when and wherever they go.  A carry kit and auto trunk-stored stuff that helps you survive 72 hours out of your home, because of floods, earthquakes, tornadoes or whatever other disasters are at hand is important.

Remembering the MidWest storms this year, you might want to set up a survival bag for you and your family that will allow you to make your way to shelter. My home was within a mile of at least two tornadoes.  We were lucky and only had power out for a bit.

There are a number of websites that you can search that will offer suggestions for items to include in your GoBag.

Make sure you include a minimal amount of food and water for three days for your family (also for your pets) and at least some form of personal defense.  You never know what's going to happen "out there."
