Twenty Questions to Ponder About St. Louis Radio and TV for the New Year
1) Will the Cardinals vacate KTRS at the end of the season? Bids have been presented over the past few months but will the DeWitt's bite? If they do, what will the ripple effect be in terms of KMOX, 101 and, of course, what would remain of KTRS?
2) What effect will Clear Channel's new station at 100.3 have on the market, most notably The Arch, The Point and Y98?
3) Will this be the year Alan Cohen finally retires at KMOV? If he does, who will get the job, what will the effect be at the station and how will it affect what we see?
4) Dave Glover's contract reportedly is up this spring at Emmis' 97.1. Given what's transpired at Union Station over the past year how might those negotiations be going?
5) What will the continuing effects of the new PPM ratings be on St. Louis stations, particularly the music stations that mix talk with that music?
6) Will Bonneville's attempt at sports-talk get over the hump and be viewed as a success, will "Coach K" try for a local morning show, and will Bryan Burwell survive?
7) The contract of Art Holliday reportedly is up at the end of 2010. Will KSDK continue to turn its back on longtime on-air personalities with big money contracts?
8) Will JC Corcoran ride out the entire year of 2010, under contract, off the air and fully paid, or will Emmis negotiate a settlement freeing him to go elsewhere? And just where might that "elsewhere" be?
9) And will Emmis' decision to dump its popular morning show in place of an all-music presentation be a success or failure?
10) Will ABC vacate KDNL and move its affiliation elsewhere, like KPLR, for example?
11) What will the effects be of the current trend of local television stations replacing experienced journalists with much younger, cheaper, generally inexperienced backpackers?
12) What will the loss of Martin Duggan mean to "Donnybrook" and KETC-TV, and will Charles Brennan be successful as Duggan's successor?
13) What will a new show for Tim Ezell and an extra hour of news do for FOX2, and will the station continue as the market leader, sign-on to sign-off?
14) How will the controversy surrounding the impending sale of KFUO be resolved?
15) Can The Arch continue as market leader?
16) Will one of St. Louis' sports-talk stations finally go out of business, and which one will it be?
17) Which station will be earliest to program an "all Christmas music format," and why?
18) Will McGraw Milhaven survive all of 2010 as KTRS morning man or will Tim Dorsey's revolving door get him?
19) Will ANY St. Louis HD radio station show up in an Arbitron report?
20) Will the economy recover enough for radio's massive revenue losses to be replaced by profitability?
