The St. Louis Post-Dispatch on Friday announced the layoff of 23 employees.

The newspaper "had a work force reduction," according to a short written statement. "The areas affected were production, information technology and marketing."

No journalists or other newsroom employees were affected by the reduction, the newspaper said.

The Post-Dispatch gave no reason for the reduction.

The Post-Dispatch and its website www.stltoday.com are owned by Lee Enterprises, based in Davenport, Iowa.
