Over the past few weeks I've collected and published a lot of information and evidence regarding personal impropriety and illegal behavior by DC Chymes (AKA Isaiah Wilhelm) and his wife, Anna Marie Wilhelm, a former East St. Louis gentlemen's club entertainer. This is, of course, ground previously trodden by this website and by the RFT and other news resources.
DC and his wife's most recent adventures in Western Maryland and Pennsylvania have been now widely opened to inspection and are bleeding their contempt for common and decent social behavior. There are criminal and civil charges erupting against them everywhere they've ever lived or worked. Mrs. Wilhelm, in fact, was recently released from custody in Maryland (after extradition there from Illinois) on $15k bail on a variety of charges.
DC, himself, has carefully avoided signing any documents or getting involved in any transactions, so as to be considered innocent. Believe me, he is not innocent.
At the very least, DC is responsible for the manipulation of the "payments" for the services of many of their employees. My evidence suggests that DC promised much to their "interns" and delivered nothing.
The Wilhelms are evil people. Click on the link above to see the photographic evidence and read the stories of those personally affected.
The syndicator of the DC & The Family Show has pulled the plug for non-payment. And now they want their electronic devices back and no one can seem to find them.
The Wilhelm's have been sued for back rent and property destruction by almost every landlord with whom they contracted, here, there and everywhere There are charges of property theft and bank fraud. There could be charges of animal abuse and even child abuse, if the states' attorneys involved looked a little further: allowing a dog to freeze to death outside during the Winter because "I forgot to bring him in" is inexcuseable, as is allowing your children to live on top of and beneath a layer of animal feces.
And it's only the beginning. I have corroborated evidence of the most despicable kind of personal and social behavior while in the employ of major STL radio groups. I won't further define it here, because, frankly, it's so disgusting.
In case you were wondering about the Steve & DC "partnership" ... their own employer, Emmis, sued them and won almost $25k because they trashed the place so badly:
"Plaintiff appears and/or by attorney, defendant Steve and DC LLC consents to count 1 for possession of premises located at 700 St Louis Union Station , suite 100 and damages in the amount of $ 23,229.16 .Defendant Terrence W. Trawick appears not. Defendant unlawfully detained premises. Default judgment entered against defendant in the amount 24,794.39 as to count 11 Cost against defendants . SO ORDERED: JUDGE Michael Mullen"
So where will DC show up on the radio next?
That's who your radio heroes were in the 1990's. Good listening.

Presented without further comment ...
Oh, wait...here's a comment from Tom Taylor:
KTRS, St. Louis says “We were a successful talk station before we had the Cardinals”–
And they will be after the team takes its games back to previous play-by-play home KMOX (1120), says KTRS GM Tim Dorsey. He knows the landscape very well (he spent 17 years at KMOX), and he tells TRI “we had a great run with the Cardinals and enjoyed every minute of it.” One of the interesting facets of the new KMOX contract is that KTRS (550) is still 50% owned by the Cardinals. The team took that position over five years ago, when former Jacor topper Bobby Lawrence got involved.
I'm sorry, but I've followed the KTRSMess since the beginning (even worked with them for almost six years) and I find it difficult to break out a single Arbitron rating period during which KTRS could have been considered a successful talk station. Dorsey's delusional.
Gerry House retires at WSIX/Nashville ...
from Lon Helton's Country Aircheck ...
Nashville radio will change forever Dec. 15. Just moments ago, WSIX/Nashville morning personality par excellence Gerry House broke the news to his legions of Music City listeners that The House Foundation would be coming to an end on that date. In inimitable House fashion, he explains his exit, "I wanna sleep late, contemplate and feel great. I will miss everyone on and off the air, but it's time for me to do the other things I think about. The mostest fun ever is working with your friends. I also plan to travel and spend less time with my family." The Clear Channel press release notes "House will remain on staff with WSIX as a contributor, writer and Consigliere."
CC/Nashville Market Manager Tom English says of House, "Working with Gerry has been a highlight of my career. He and the rest of The House Foundation are absolutely the best and they have meant so much to our listeners, our station and our industry. Just saying Gerry House will be missed is the understatement of the decade, but I understand his desire to take time and enjoy the fruits of his success."
WSIX PD Keith Kaufman says he is now conducting a search to find the Next Great Radio Show. "A world-wide search is now underway," he says. "We will find Nashville's next big thing. Anyone who can make me laugh within three minutes of turning on the radio every morning for the next 20 years can call my cell phone. If it'll take four minutes some days, we'll talk too." Airchecks and resumes to Kaufman here.
Over the years Gerry House and The House Foundation have won every major award in Country Radio including three CMAs, seven ACMs, eight Billboard Awards, nine from R&R and one Marconi. House has also been recognized with the Country Radio Broadcasters' Personality of the Year and the Leadership Music Dale Franklin Award, as well as being a 2009 inductee into the Country Music DJ and Radio Hall of Fame. Additionally, he has written two BMI Million Play songs and had more than 40 cuts recorded.

You're Hired...Or Not
By Frank Absher
There is no rhyme or reason as to who gets hired and who doesn’t, at least not on the surface. But some digging will often yield a lot of dirt.
At one station I worked with a delightful lady. She had no qualifications for her job, but her ex-husband was a major advertiser and he approached the manager asking for a job for the woman he was divorcing. She got the job without even coming in for an interview.
Qualifications? Forget about them. I had an excellent interview and the news director made no effort to conceal the fact that he was impressed. The moment to wrap things up came and he said, “I’d hire you today if your skin were a different color.”
Which leads me to some feedback I got on a piece I recently wrote. In the article I noted that, during a hiring process, I chose to only consider those applicants with college degrees, which cut the number under consideration to about 35.
A half dozen people from around the country took umbrage with this, telling me there were many good people who don’t “have that piece of paper.” This is, of course, correct. But as I’ve learned in life, the hiring process will always displease more people than it pleases.
These respondents all admitted that they had not gone on to get a degree beyond high school. I wish them well, but would make the same hiring decision again, some 30+ years later.
Most of the managers I’ve known would probably stick by their hiring decisions, no matter how questionable they were.
One owner for whom I worked suddenly told me he’d hired an assistant for me. Seems her husband was an attorney and one of the attorney’s clients was threatening to sue my boss.
A small market owner had a part-timer who would come in with his own stack of records and break format each weekend. The part-timer was an ad buyer for a local beer distributor.
A small market owner whose husband had recently passed away was in dire need of an announcer. She hired her hairdresser’s “companion,” who had never been in radio before, but she said she’d always been able to trust her hairdresser.
The job hunt can take a tremendous emotional toll on you, but in the end the most intelligent approach is to avoid beating yourself up over jobs that got away.
I remember a rejection letter from a station in Grand Junction, Colorado. They told me I was no longer under consideration “due to the high standards we have for our staff.” Within a couple years I’d been hired at KMOX, the St. Louis CBS O&O powerhouse.
I still marvel from time to time at how great that Colorado station must have been. I wasn’t good enough for them, but for some reason, I was good enough for KMOX.

Bad maintenance on KTVI mobile units ...
About the collapse of a microwave unit into one of Fox 2's poorly-maintained live vans--here's a photo of the van cab damage.
Uh oh ...
Climate change claims might be based on pure bullsquat.
From the U.K. Daily Express:
The world’s leading climate change body has been accused of losing credibility after a damning report into its research practices.
A high-level inquiry into the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change found there was “little evidence” for its claims about global warming.
It also said the panel had emphasised the negative impacts of climate change and made “substantive findings” based on little proof.
The review by the InterAcademy Council (IAC) was launched after the IPCC’s hugely embarrassing 2007 benchmark climate change report, which contained exaggerated and false claims that Himalayan glaciers could melt by 2035.
The panel was forced to admit its key claim in support of global warming was lifted from a 1999 magazine article. The report was based on an interview with a little-known Indian scientist who has since said his views were “speculation” and not backed by research.

Best comment on the KMOX-Cardinals reunion ...
That slight tremor you may have felt about 5:00 Wednesday afternoon was Gussie rolling back over and getting comfortable again.
WIL FM92 is one of the CMA's nominations ...
...for Country Station of the Year. Good for them! Congratulations to station PD Greg Mozingo and his team.
But what does this mean, from the Secret Squirrel Network?
Key player at Palace on Ballas being courted for bigger and better things. Plans to take along two in the circle as well. This will put that place in a tailspin.

Hurricane Earl misses Mrs. A by a whisker ...
Carroll flies home from Mom's Richmond VA memorial service around 12N today out of Washington National. I've been worried about the hurricane's progress up the East Coast. Looks like she'll miss the weather by a couple hours.
It also looks like our family and friends in Richmond and the DC area are gonna get soaked and blown about a bit. Better them in their houses at ground level than Mrs. A at Angels35.
If you've ever lived on the East or Gulf Coasts, you've probably experienced a hurricane. Probably the most terrifying night of my life was when I was just six years old, and Hurricane Hazel roared 100 miles inland as a Category 4 storm in October 1954 and romped through Southern New Jersey. Shrieking winds at 100+ mph and pounding rains for hours, not considered normal for the region, electric out, huge trees knocked down. Pretty rough. I'll never forget watching out the kitchen window as Mrs. Watson's apple orchard next door went to the ground, one tree at a time.

STL Twitter useage ...
I've gone thru the report and I'm not sure I completely understand it. But I'm presenting it here because you may find it interesting and/or useful.
Hi Mike,
The State of Twitter: STL report has just been released, and I thought you might be interested in sharing it with STL Media's readers. The report is a presentation of STL Tweets' research over the first six months of 2010 regarding the who/what/when of Twitter usage in St. Louis. Below is STL Tweets founder Jason Fiehler's introduction to the report:
"Over one year ago, when we started tracking Twitter usage amongst the people of St. Louis, we believed we were just building a Twitter application to demonstrate our skills to potential clients. Little did we know that we were actually beginning an enormous journey of discovery - quickly learning that Twitter isn’t just a certain segment of St. Louis, it *is* St. Louis. STL Tweets soon became our magnifying glass, allowing us amazing and unprecedented views into the people, places, culture and everything else that makes up daily life in St. Louis. I have lived in this city for much of my life but after using STL Tweets on a daily basis for the last six months, I now realize how little I actually knew about this place I call home.
This report is our first opportunity to share our discoveries - it’s a collection of data, charts, lists and graphs that paint a picture of the St. Louis Twitter community over the first six months of 2010. I invite you to take the time, read it through and see what sticks out to you - did it align with what you were already thinking? Was it radically different? I must confess that both myself and the members of the STL Tweets team were surprised by many of the findings.
Note, this report is just the first in what hopefully will become a long series. We’ll continue cataloging the St. Louis Twitter stream and plan to release a full analysis of 2010 sometime in early February. Stay tuned and let’s continue down this journey of discovery together.
Thank you for your time and interest. I hope you enjoy The State of Twitter: STL."

Mrs. DC extradited, held on $15k bond for multiple charges ...
What a day, huh? The KMOX thing hits and then there's more on the DC Chymes mess. His wife, Anna, a former East Side gentlemen's club entertainer, was extradited from Illinois to face multiple charges, including theft and bad checks, in Garrett County, Maryland, where they were last employed. You can look up her current status by entering her legal name, Anna Wilhelm, in the appropriate places on this website.
And then, I'm told, affiliates of the DC & Family show were contacted by the show's syndication company, telling them that they are no longer making the show available through their service. DC's now doing the show for what remains of his list of affiliates in the studios of WGGH in Marion, Illinois and it's available for syndication by picking up WGGH's internet stream.
The horror stories from former employees of the Steve & DC Show, and of the DC & Family Show, continue to come in, and every now and again a weird one gets through, usually thru the ID-less Secret Squirrel entry page. Here's a portion of one of yesterday's, from someone who calls himself Little Bobby (that's his fan photo at left) and claims to be a part of the current DC show. It's barely literate, so be careful when you read it:
You wanna sit here and talk about the eviction and crap you also didnt hear all that information did you nope. See you piss me off cuz you put your nose in all this and dont get all the correct information you get some of it and then you manipulate it. Those pics are due to the fact that they were notified of the eviction like you have to do in the state of missouri. and secondly they were given a 45 minute window to leave with the sheriff sitting there the entire time. trust me i know i was there to help them get the stuff out.
He's referring, I guess to the photos of the Creve Coeur apartment. If the dogs could poop that much in 45 minutes they'd have their own TV show!
i went to that man (Editor's note: referring to the Maryland and Pennsylvania station owner and GM) with so many ideas on how to improve his station, to do a late night gigs that a lot of people in that community wanted to hear cuz I was always out and about due to coaching at the local high school. What did he do he hired some chick instead.
Yup, he actually wrote all that. Some chick, indeed. And that's from a "local HS coach."
It goes on, terrifying in its complexity.
Read it here! (Registration required).

Cards back to KMOX!
Effective next season. KTRS ownership details murky.
Please note: I merged the two concurrent Message Board threads on this topic into one, under Sports.
Update: So why, when the smart money was all on Bonneville to become part of a simulcast with KTRS, did it go the other way entirely?
I figure that CBS sweetened the deal a hair more than 101 and KTRS could. There's a "small but significant" rights fee to the team involved in the KMOX deal. Otherwise the deal stays the same...all game avails to the Cards, pre- and post- to the station, plus whatever other programming they come up with.
Plus there's the heritage factor. And it's a fan pleasing decision and the team needs all the help they can get there. Besides, radio is becoming such an increasingly small piece of the media pie that it probably doesn't matter. There are a million other ways to hear the games.
And as I understand it, the team keeps their half-interest in KTRS, for which they paid only $2 million a few years back. KTRS would have to scramble to come up with that much spare change to buy it back, even at the same price. 50% of a decent AM signal in the STL market, arguably one of the two best AM signals has got to be worth more than $2 mil, even in these sour times for radio revenue and pricing.
Or they could be holding on to it just to be dicks. That's not unheard of in business.

Correction: Big League Broadcasing
Correction: BLB never actually owned 790 AM, it was operated under a LMA agreement with Lincoln Financial. The deal was only to aquire intellectual property of the Zone, so there will be no FCC filing.
Also, the PD put the sale price for 590 at $1.4 Million. The way that the Asset Purchase Agreement was written with the FCC, it was hard to tell what the price paid was, as it was on a sliding scale depending upon when the option was exercised by Grand Slam.

Inbetween radio and TV, there was still vaudeville ...
...and that included clowns and comedy acts like this:
Bananaman!
This guy showed up on Captain Kangaroo starting in 1960, as seen below, but I was too old for that show. I remember him from Ed Sullivan. But he began way before that.

Big League Broadcasting Exits Station Ownership
A two year dumping spree comes to an end from Big League Broadcasting, who announced the sale of their flagship Atlanta sports talker WQXI to Lincoln Financial Media. As it has not yet been filed with the Federal Communications Commission, sale price data is not available.
Big League began selling off their properties first with the sale of KFNS-FM Troy, MO to John Scheper and Steve Kaspar's Westplex Broadcasting for $480,000, followed by the sale of 1190 AM KRFT (Now KQQZ) to the Romanik family's Entertainment Media Trust for $600k last summer, and most recently the sale of their flagship St. Louis AM 590 KFNS "The Fan" to Dave Greene and James Oaklaus' Grand Slam Sports for $1.825 Million, just over a tenth of the price that Big League overpaid Greg Maracek's Missouri Sports Radio back in 2004.
