Talk radio listeners will soon wake up to a different voice when they tune in Birmingham’s WERC 105.5 FM and its sister station WERC 960 AM. Scott Fitzgerald, who grew up in Cincinnati and most recently worked at WPTF 680 AM in Raleigh, N.C., will replace the “Steve & Leah Show.”
That show, with Steve Shannon and Leah Brandon, had been on the air at WERC for about 2½ years. Fitzgerald’s show, which begins Oct. 11, will air from 6 to 9 a.m. Mondays through Fridays.
Longtime Birmingham radio personality Jeff Tyson will fill in as morning host until Fitzgerald’s show starts.
“This new morning lineup gives us the depth to deliver on audience expectations in a personable and professional manner,” Ray Quinn, vice president and market manager for Clear Channel Birmingham, said in a prepared statement Friday. Clear Channel owns WERC.
Earlier this year, Shannon and Brandon won Abby Awards from the Alabama Broadcasters Association for best large-market talk show and best large-market personality or team. “My goal is to be back on-air as soon as possible,” Shannon posted on Facebook page Friday. Brandon likely will remain at WERC as a news anchor, Quinn said in an e-mail.
So DC's out in his effort at syndication, and now Steve. End of the story. Thank you, Jesus, they're both gone from American air. Maybe real estate sales would better suit them.
