From Tom Taylor:
Another “end of an era” – the last Sony Walkman for the Japanese market.
The Walkman embodied the new portability of AM/FM radio married to a cassette unit, and it sold millions of units through the 1980s, the 1990s and (not so much) the ‘00’s. As the New York Daily News points out, “the announcement [that Sony will quit production in Japan] comes almost exactly a decade after the iPod hit the stores.” Sony sold more than 200 million Walkmen, and it will still make some for the Chinese, European and American markets.
Used one of these with an AM/FM radio receiver for remotes for a lot of years.
