I moved here in late 1985 ...

...to do mornings at WIL AM& FM.  It was a very cold Winter.  I drove my little loaded-up Honda Civic from Virginia, through the then-un-highwayed and very icy roads of West Virignia, on to STL.  LIN Broadcasting, who then owned the station, put me up at The Mayfair.

Each morning, I walked the few blocks to the station in the Missouri State Bank Building on Tucker in the bitter cold, picked up a copy of the P-D along the way for a quarter from a newsstand that no longer exists, did the show and then walked back to the hotel and waited until the sun thawed the car and I could go on a hunt for a place to live. I chose a place in Florrisant, at an apartment complex, and my stuff got delivered and I was finally with a home.

And then one morning, in late January, as I drove to work, I noticed that the temps were in the 40's and there was a lot of fog.  It was the January thaw.

Since then I've seen it happen every year.  It'll get colder again before it warms up, trust me.  We've got snow to come and cold to bear.
